Dear Friend,

I am running for the Merced County Board of Supervisors, District #2.  

I am asking you to vote for me and to support my campaign.

For over thirty years I have been committed to public service. I served two terms on City Council and two terms as Mayor of Merced. While I was in office, we accomplished many community goals including: curbside recycling; downtown revitalization; the opening of UC Merced; city financial support of public library services; and the passage of the measure that provides the community with more police and firemen.

My commitment to public service also led me to work with community groups to take on some of Merced County’s toughest problems including: economic development and job growth; gang violence; affordable housing; and the methamphetamine crisis. I worked with the Southeast Asian community and Lao Family to plan services for these new residents. I was honored to serve on the UC Merced Committee and when asked to serve in community leadership positions as President of the United Way, Chairman of my church board and as a Director for the Merced County Chamber of Commerce.  In addition, I have had the good fortune to work on our community’s issues at the regional, state and federal level through my volunteer, elected, and professional organizations.

Here is what I will focus on as your County Supervisor: opening local government so people have a greater voice; improving public safety; attracting thriving businesses and well-paying jobs; improving roads and critical infrastructure; creating a culture where education, both career-oriented and college-directed, is valued; and developing a planning process that supports the future we want as well as the valuable assets that we have.

These are challenging times, but I believe that Merced County as a bright and prosperous future. I am proud of our community’s past and I still believe Merced County is a wonderful place to call home. I will work hard to make a difference in the future of this county.
